While leaving the courtroom, the attacker told reporters that he had no regrets, adding that he did not know the priest personally.
The detained man, who is 56, faces a life sentence.
The attack occurred on Monday morning in front of the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Wrocław city centre.
The suspect approached the priest, started a conversation and then stabbed him with a knife.
The 48 year-old churchman underwent surgery. His condition is described as stable.
