The talks in Warsaw were expected to focus on the role of teachers, students and parents in the education system as well as the quality of teaching and modern schooling methods.

Dozens of teachers, parents, officials and experts on Friday kicked off "roundtable talks" about the future of Polish education in response to an invitation by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

Two large unions representing teachers skipped that debate in the country’s capital.

Unionists last week said they were suspending a nationwide pay strike by school teachers.

Lawmakers on Friday rejected a bid by the opposition to oust Education Minister Anna Zalewska.
