Polish ruling party in the lead: poll

Poland’s ruling conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party is backed by 32 percent of voters who say they would take part in parliamentary elections, according to a new survey by Kantar Millward Brown.

Support for PiS went up by three percentage points compared with a previous study, according to the pollster’s June survey, which was commissioned by private broadcaster TVN for its Fakty news programme and its TVN24 around-the-clock news channel.
In second place, with 27 percent – down by four percentage points from the previous poll in April - is the opposition Civic Platform (PO) party, which was ousted from power in 2015 parliamentary elections.
The anti-establishment Kukiz’15 group is third on nine percent, down from 10 percent, the latest poll found.
The economically liberal Nowoczesna (Modern) party is fourth, backed by eight percent, up from five percent in the previous poll.
The left-wing Democratic Left Alliance (SLD), now outside parliament, is fifth on six percent, unchanged from April.
The poll found no other parties would make it into the Sejm, the lower house of parliament.
Kantar Millward Brown conducted the poll on 2-4 June on a sample of 1,009 adult respondents. (str/pk)
