Poland is the Guest of Honour at this year’s Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, which has attracted 1,300 exhibitors from 83 countries, according to Polish Radio’s IAR news agency.

Now in its 28th year, the annual fair is one of the largest cultural events in the Middle East, IAR reported.

Polish writers such as Andrzej Sapkowski, Wioletta Grzegorzewska, Antoni Libera and Wojciech Chmielarz are expected to meet with readers during the event, which offers an opportunity to promote not only Polish literature, but also the nation’s culture and history, according to Poland’s ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Robert Rostek.

The fair, which runs until May 1, includes lectures focusing on Polish art, cinema and music as well as culinary demonstrations and workshops for children run by Polish book illustrators.

Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Culture Minister Piotr Gliński is expected to be among those visiting the show.
