The Italian-American director was invited by the Polish Filmmakers' Association (SFP), which has prepared a special review of the master's films to accompany the visit.
Scorsese himself was personally involved in the selection of the twelve movies, which include cult classics such as Taxi Driver (1976), Dalai Lama biopic Kundun (1997) and his brand new documentary about Beatles legend George Harrison, Living in a Material World.
The idea for the visit came about when the director met with veteran Polish filmmaker Andrzej Wajda in the States.
Scorsese is a self-professed admirer of several Polish movie-makers, the lion's share of whom emerged from the Lodz Film School. He was instrumental in restoring Wojciech Has's The Saragossa Manuscript (1965), one of the most innovative Polish films of its day.
The director, who turned 69 last week, will be in Poland during the first week of December.
Screenings of his films will be held at Warsaw's Kultura cinema from 3-7 December, and in Lodz's Polonia film house from 9-11 December. Both cinemas belong to SFP. (nh/pg)
