Polish, Ethiopian presidents talk trade

Bilateral trade was the main subject of talks when Polish President Andrzej Duda met his Ethiopian counterpart Mulatu Teshome in Warsaw on Tuesday.

Duda said the Ethiopian market was interesting and that it was worth locating businesses there, recalling his visit last year to the Ethiopian factory where Polish Ursus tractors were assembled.
“Ethiopia is a huge market, there are more than 100 million residents, more than 100 million potential consumers; of course, Ethiopia is not wealthy yet but it is a quickly developing country,” Duda said.
Teshome said that his country was interested in building closer trade ties with Poland and in attracting investment and transferring technologies.
Duda said he looked forward to meeting Teshome again in New York in May when Poland takes over the month-long rotating presidency of the United Nations Security Council. Both Poland and Ethiopia are temporary members of the council.
Duda also said he hoped Ethiopia would open an embassy in Poland and that direct flights between Warsaw and Addis Ababa could be set up, adding that this would significantly improve trade and tourism. (vb/pk)
